Edward Haletky recently wrote an interesting post for TechTarget's Virtualization Pro describing what he believes to be "must have" or other useful VMware Infrastructure plug-ins.
If you aren't yet familiar with plug-ins, it might be something you start looking into. Many of these plug-ins could be exactly what you are looking for to help you with your every day virtualization admin life.
When VMware introduced VirtualCenter 2.5, it also started offering third-party developers and partners the ability to extend the VMware Infrastructure Client (VI Client) with their own product specific menu selections, views, tabs and toolbar icons that could provide access to external Web based functionality. VC plug-ins can therefore enable a wide range of integration and extension scenarios.
Considered one of (if not THE) industry's leading VI Client Plug-in developers, Hyper9's Andrew Kutz (who literally wrote the book, er, documentation on Plug-ins) made the list with a number of his creations.
Storage VMotion plug-in. This plug-in was created by Andrew Kutz who now works for Hyper9 and works on the H9Labs.com projects.
H9Labs Hyper9 VI Client plug-in Also from Andrew Kutz. It allows me to do simple searches within the infrastructure and hooks in to Hyper9 if you have it.
GuessMyOS plug-in from H9Labs (adds cool icons).
Invoke plug-in (Invoke a command in the security context of your logged-in user on a host)
Console plug-in (SSH console for ESX host, not very useful for ESXi).
AddPortGroups plug-in (Adds multiple portgroups to multiple vSwitches at the same time).
