Very cool stuff - I like the details per-vm, and the ability to sort/filter on so many different settings/attributes.

Reporting is pretty good too, not sure how to do any alerting, hopefully can figure that out - looking forward to letting it run for a few weeks and see what kind of perf. data we can get.

thanks!

Not to be unoriginal but I have to agree with jprattnu above on the drill-down details for all my VM's, all in one place. Beautiful! Hyper9 is by far the most complete and easy to use virtual machine information gathering tool I have seen yet. I can search and compare between several different VM object types, and here's something really cool: you can compare a VM to ITSELF over time! Beyond the basics of VM management, the important day to day things for me, are seeing installed apps and updates across the virtual enterprise with a couple licks, and also being able to see what services are running. Also, what good would all that be without reporting? Great software at the right time!

Hi there, can you explain a little bit more about why the alerting and monitoring piece was the most important component for you?

How do you use it?  Or what specifically is it providing for you?  I'd love to hear a bit more about it from you if you don't mind.

From the short time that I've been able to look at it so far, the most helpful thing to me would be to track changes. We have multiple VMware Administrators and, although I have set a policy that any configuration changes of VMs are approved ahead of time and are tracked in a spreadsheet, it would be nice to have a more automated tool that shows what was done and when.

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for responding and letting us know.  Have you already downloaded the Alerting and Monitoring Applet?  It is a free add-on that you will need in order to actually perform the alerting side of things that you mentioned.  What's really cool about it, once you figure out the things you want to query against, it is easy to take those same queries and put them in the Alerting and Monitoring tool to keep you updated on things rather than manually having to query for it each time.  Would love to get your feedback again after you collect more data over time and after trying out the monitoring and alerting tool.

You can grab it from the Store site, here.

Thanks,

David

1. I found the best use case to be the monitoring of diskspace that each VM is using. I need to keep track of how much disk space is left in my datastores. i cant run out while I am on vacation.

2. I am really keen on the alerting feature for CPU and diskpace. I am gonna have non trained admins running VMs and I dont want them calling me all the time. :-)

3. I saw new beta today, and the single pane o glass interface is great. I need management to see what i am doing and or run their own reports. This will allow me to get more budget to buy equipment etc.... What I need is a ROI validation report for management.  I am still fairly new to VM game, and management is only half way there on risk.

Thanks - great feedback.  #3 sounds like a really interesting report - any ideas on what this would look like?

Being able to pull down information from VMs relating to applications is a problem we have had since day 1 in virtual enviorments.

Hi Joe,  would an example of this be "show me all the VMs participating in application x"?  i.e. understanding which VMs support which applications?

The most beneficial feature for me is the alerting and monitoring feature. The alert, when you start to run out of hard drive space is highly used.

1. Performance Management for virtualization environment is the best use-case for Hyper9.

2.  Troubleshooting and performance monitoring and comparison are the best features I love to use. The search filter is really very attractive for filtering options.

3. It would be great if it give predictions for performance of virtual env.
